What Is Included in Permit-Ready Plans?
A practical guide to defining a residential permit drawing package and confirming local requirements.
“Permit-ready” describes a defined package, not guaranteed approval
A residential permit package commonly combines a cover sheet, site information, floor plans, exterior elevations, building sections, and project-specific details. The exact sheets depend on the jurisdiction, occupancy, project scope, and supporting consultants.
Confirm these items before drafting
- The authority having jurisdiction and its current checklist
- Property survey, setbacks, utility, and site information
- Existing-condition documentation for additions or remodels
- Energy, structural, civil, geotechnical, or other consultant requirements
- File format, submission method, and responsible applicant
Timpson defines the proposed sheet list in the quote. Review comments may still require revisions, and permit approval remains with the reviewing authority.
